What is the difference between Buildings and Contents Insurance?
As an approximate guide, if you were to turn your home upside down, everything that fell out would be your contents (including carpets and curtains), and most of what remains would be buildings. For further information relating to the items covered under our building/contents cover please refer to our policy wording.
How much should I insure my home for?
Contents - You need to consider all of the possessions within your home and how much it would cost to replace them new today, except for clothing and linen where you can deduct an amount for wear and tear. A Contents Insurance Checklist can be used for guidance and to assist you in arriving at an adequate sum insured.
Buildings - Your premium will be calculated using our rebuilding cost calculator to estimate the rebuilding cost, however we will automatically cover you for a sum insured of £500,000. Please contact a member of our customer services team on 01403 321 234 if you require a building sum insured in excess of £500,000.
What does new for old mean?
New for Old means, that we will replace the item(s) you are claiming for with new one(s) of the same make & specification. Claims in respect of clothing and household linen will be subject to deductions for wear and tear.
What is a ‘valuable’?
When we refer to “valuables“ we mean:
- Jewellery (including costume jewellery)
- Articles of or containing gold, silver or other precious metals
- Cameras (which includes video cameras and camcorders)
- Binoculars
- Watches
- Furs
- Paintings and other works of art
- Collection of stamps, coins and medals
Do you cover accidental damage?
We automatically provide accidental damage cover as standard for buildings and contents on both our Landlords and Tenants policies.
How long does my quote last?
An insurance quote will remain valid for a period of 2 months from the date of the quotation.
Do I pay an excess if I make a claim?
Yes, the standard excess for a Landlord or Tenant is £100 for all perils except for Escape of Water (£250) and Subsidence, Landslip and Heave (£1000).
If I need to, can I make a claim at 3 o’clock in the morning?
Yes. All our claims helplines are available 24 hours a day,365 days a year.

Is it safe to use my credit/debit card on your site?
Lets-Cover appreciates the importance of protecting our client's personal information from possible security risks, and therefore all of your personal information you enter into our quote form is protected using SSL encryption technology, which works with your internet browser to protect the data.
For a number of credit and debit cards we require a Card Security code (also known as CVV2 or Card Verification Value) which is a three digit number on the signature strip of your card. Once payments have been processed the details will automatically be deleted from the system in line with Data Protection Requirements.

Can I get immediate cover?
Yes, providing you have a credit or debit card or the facility to pay by Direct Debit we can issue you with immediate cover; this is subject to terms and conditions.
When will I receive my insurance documents?
You should allow 5 working days for any documents that you request from us. These will be sent in the post.
Is Malicious Damage by Tenant Covered?
Yes, loss or damage to the Landlords contents while the property is tenanted is covered as standard (subject to terms and conditions).
As a Landlord, do I get a discount if I take both Buildings and Contents Insurance?
A 10% premium discount is automatically applied where both Buildings and Contents Insurance is selected.
I am a tenant, surely if my contents were stolen or damaged then the Landlord would be responsible for replacement?
A Landlord is not responsible for a Tenants belongings/contents. For example: If a landlords water tank broke and consequently damaged a Tenants TV, Mobile Phone, Hi Fi, Clothes etc, a landlord would not be responsible for any damage caused to a Tenants belonging/contents.
